Cards Open 2011 Season with a Pair of Wins

The William Jewell College Volleyball team opened their 2011 season with a pair of wins in the Rockhurst University Tournament. The Cards downed Arkansas Tech 3-1 and defeated University of Mary 3-0 on Friday.

Against Arkansas Tech, Jewell won 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-21.

Hannah Herndon led the Cards with 13 kills. Rachel Gilman added 16 digs while Regan Sirbaugh and

Elsey Hopkins pounded out 9 and 8 kills respectively. Cailynn Hayter had 32 set assists on the day for the Cardinals.

Jewell then defeated University of Mary by scores of 30-28, 25-21 and 25-20.

Hannah Herndon again led the Cardinals as she knocked home 21 kills. Katie Dagmar added 21 digs while Cailynn Hayter added 33 assists.

The Cardinals, 2-0 on the year, continue play in the Rockhurst Tournament on Saturday, September 3 against Colorado State/Pueblo and Chadron State College.
