The William Jewell College volleyball team won the first two sets of Friday's match against Quincy University , but were unable to hold the lead, falling to Quincy, 3-2 (32-34, 17-25,25-23, 27-25, 15-13).
Sophomore
Jordan Jackson paced the Cardinals with 15 kills in the loss, while
Hannah Herndon and
Kaylee Marquardt each added 14 kills and
Christina Pratt tallied 12. The Cardinals hit .140 in defeat.
Jewell took control of the opening set with a crucial 3-0 run, capped a Marquardt service ace to take the opening set 34-32.
Jewell took the second set 25-17 with a key 5-1 run late in the set.
The Cardinals built an early 4-0 lead in the third set only to see Quincy rally late in the set to take the third 25-23.
The fourth set saw both teams battle back and forth before the Lady Hawks took the final two points after the score was tied 25-25.
Jewell fell behind 14-11 in the deciding set, and was able to save two match points before a Quincy kill would end the set and give the Lady Hawks the win.
Katie Damgar led the Cardinals with 39 digs, and Herndon chipped in 15. Setter
Cailynn Hayter had a game high 57 assists.
The Cardinals (10-14, 4-8) will host University of Illinois-Springfield tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
