The William Jewell College volleyball team snapped a four match losing streak defeating the University of Illinois-Springfield Lady Prairie Stars 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-7). The Cardinals improve to 11-14 overall and 5-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with the victory.
The Cardinals came out focused and driven in the first set jumping out on top 4-0. Jewell would build on that lead as the set went on and UIS was only able to get within five. The Cardinals continued to play well winning 25-15 off an attack error.
In the second set the Cardinals again jumped out to a lead and were never threatened. Jewell used a key 5-0 run early in the set to give the Cardinals the 25-16 victory and a 2-0 lead in the set.
The Cardinals dominated the third set using two runs of 6-0 and numerous other runs to win the set 25-7 and the match 3-0.
Jewell hit .398 with 47 kills and had 43 set assists.
Christina Pratt finished with 14 kills and
Cailynn Hayter contributed 38 assists.
Hannah Herndon led the team in digs with 13 while
Katie Damgar pitched in 12.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, October 30 when they host Rockhurst University in Liberty, Mo. First serve is set for 7:00 pm from the Mabee Center.
