The William Jewell College women's tennis team earned a 9-0shutout against Ottawa University on Friday in a “Pink Out” match at Clayview Country Club.
The teams sported pink shirts and played with pink tennis balls to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
In doubles action, Jewell began by taking the No. 1 match as
Kristen Stivers and
Katy Lehenbauer defeated Danika Good and Michelle Westerman 8-0. Seniors
Hana Lindbloom and
Jaimie Baker soon followed with an 8-0 win of their own at No. 3 doubles over Ellen Agnew and Bekka Bailey. Sophomore sisters Conner and
Loree Hazelrigg put the Cards up 3-0 with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Madeline Bellew and Kimsha Peterson.
In singles play, Lindbloom held off Bellew at No. 1. The Cardinal senior took the first set 6-2 and held on 6-4 in the second set.
Lehenbauer responded with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while first-year player
Savannah Drew and
Conner Hazelrigg won their matches 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and No. 6 singles respectively. Baker and Loree Hazlerigg earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
The squad will wrap up the fall season with a dual against Truman State University on Monday at Recreation Park in Cameron, Mo. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
