The William Jewell College Women's Basketball team opened its 2012-13 season with an 82-77 overtime loss to the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Saturday night in Fayette, Iowa.
It was a tale of two halves as Upper Iowa jumped out and led for most of the first half and led 42-24 at halftime.
The Cardinals came out roaring in the second half after being down by 20 Jewell fought back to close the gap. With the Peacocks up by two with eight seconds in regulation
Katlyn Wood hit a layup to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, the Cardinals were able to grab their first lead of the game and led by four after a three pointer from
Holly Switzer. The Peacocks then closed the game out with a 9-0 run which produced the 82-77 final.
Chelsea Meeks led the Cardinals with 19 points, four assists and nine steals.
Holly Switzer added 16 and
Katlyn Wood pitched in 13.
William Jewell, 0-1, is back in action on Friday as they participate in the Winstead-Reeves Classic hosted by Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.
