Box Score The William Jewell College volleyball team fell 3-1 to Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday at the Mabee Center. The miners won by set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 24-26, and 25-17.
In set one the Miners used a key 4-0 run late in the set to take control and take the set 25-16.
The second set was tightly contested and the Cardinals led midway through 13-10. S&T would then go on a 5-1 run to gain momentum. After trailing 24-21, would make it interesting winning two straight points before S&T closed it out with a kill by Haley Wright.
In the third set, the Cardinals got off to a 6-0 lead and pushed it to 9-2 before S&T closed the gap to 11-9. Jewell battled back to take a 23-19 only to see the Miners close to gap to 23-23. Jewell would on for a 26-24 set win to force set four.
The fourth set saw the Cardinals dig a huge 14-4 hole and the Miners would close it out 25-17.
Hannah Herndon led the Cardinals in kills with 15 and also pitched in 23 digs.
Cailynn Hayter dished out 40 set assists and
Katie Damgar had a match high 28 digs.
The Cardinals fall to 12-16 overall and 6-10 in GLVC play. S&T improves to 17-12 and 13-3 in GLVC action.
Jewell will play host to Washburn University on Tuesday, November 6 at the Mabee Center with first serve set for 7:00 p.m.
