Jewell men's basketball won their second consecutive game in defeating Minot State on the first day of play in the D2 Vegas Showdown 70-60.
The Cardinals (9-16) led for all but :47 seconds of the game after falling behind 2-0.
Although Jewell build a 15 point lead early in the second half, Minot State was able to stay in the game by going 8-9 from the free throw line in the second half. The Cardinals,despite hitting only 10-20 of their free throws in the game, kept the Beavers at arm's length late in the game.
Mark Mason had 21 points, 4 rebounds and three steals (all leading to layups) for Jewell.
Nick Larson hit 16 points and pulled in 15 rebounds, and
Cyril Bilong, who hit 4-7 three-pointers, ended the game with 14 points.
Devonte Bell and
Nate Kroeker each had two steals and four assists.
The Cardinals battle the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday in a 5:00 (CST) contest. It will be the final game of the year for men's basketball.
