The William Jewell College women's tennis team defeated Quincy University Saturday afternoon in the team's Great Lakes Valley finale, 5-1. The match was moved indoors due to weather conditions and was stopped once a team won five matches.
The visiting Cardinals took two of three in doubles with wins at No. 1 by
Paula Peters and
Katy Lehenbauer 8-3 and the No. 3 team of
Kristen Stivers and
Hana Lindbloom won their match 8-3 as well. The Cards only loss in the match came at number two doubles as Loree and
Conner Hazelrigg lost a tough 9-7 decision at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play,
Paula Peters bested her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Hana Lindbloom won her match 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and
Katy Lehenbauer clinched the match for Jewell with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Cardinals finish their first season in the GLVC by finishing 4-2 in the Western Division good for third place which would have qualified them for the GLVC Tournament if not for the NCAA Transition rule.
Jewell, 12-5 on the spring, will take on University of Missouri-Kansas City on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
