The Jewell volleyball team started a three-match swing through St. Louis Friday night by dropping a straight-game decision to Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Missouri-St. Louis 25-18, 25-16, 25-16.

The trip continues Saturday with a conference match against Maryville University and a non-conference meeting with Pittsburg State.

Against UMSL, the Cardinals (2-18, 1-9 GLVC) blocked well, with a total of 16 blocks on the night.  Christina Pratt had six blocks and led Jewell hitters with nine kills.  Libby Ording added another seven kills while hitting a team high .412,, and Cailynn Hayter had 16 set assists while Kelsey Moffitt added another 13 assists.

Taylor Williamson had five kills and hit a healthy .364.

The Cardinals hit .126 for the match, while UMSL (12-8, 6-4) hit .288.
