Rockhurst University swept William Jewell Tuesday night in volleyball at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse on the campus of Rockhurst University, but the Cardinals battled through the night to stay close to Division II's 25th ranked team.
After a first game in which the Cardinals (4-26, 2-14 GLVC) were outhit .478 to -.135 and dropped a 25-8 decision, Jewell bounced back with a much improved game two, losing 25-18.
Game three, thoiugh, was a dogfight with 14 ties and 10 lead changes. Â The Cards hit .273 in the game to the Hawk's .208, and led by as many as five points midway through the game. Â Two service aces by Rockhurst (24-5, 14-2) seemed to tip the scale as the Hawks pulled out a 25-23 wini.
Four different hitters had six kills each for Jewell:
Kelsey Wagner,
Libby Ording,
Lauren Holm and
Kaylee Marquardt. Â Ording and Marquardt each had three blocks as well, and
Katie Damgar had a match-high 20 digs.
Jewell completes its season on the road at Drury and Missouri S&T this weekend.
