The William Jewell College men's basketball team fell to Northwest Missouri State University 78-71 Saturday night at the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo. The loss drops the Cards to 0-2 on the season heading into Tuesday's home opener against Pittsburg State.
The Bearcats jumped out to an 11-3 lead but the Cards came back and even held the lead on three different occasions in the first half. Both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half and the score was 40-40 heading to halftime.
The action in the second half went back and forth and the Cardinals were within two with 5:57 to go before Northwest went on a 10-0 run to seal the win.
Devonte Bell paced the Cards with 26 points. Dwight Sistrunk added 14 and
Jordan Lewis scored 12.
