Sistrunk Deperation Shot Sinks Hawks

Box Score
Dwight Sistrunk, Jr.'s deperation shot from beyond half court as time expired lifted William Jewell to a 97-94 win over Rockhurst University in the opening game of the Great Lakes Valley Conference season Thursday night at the Mabee Center in Liberty.

After the Hawks had hit a long three-pointer to tie the game, Sistrunk took the inbounds pass and launched the game winner that sent Jewell to 3-3 on the year, and Rockhurst to 3-4.

The shot capped a furious second half between the two teams, who battled after Rockhurst led 40-39 after the first half, and overshadowed a 36 point night for Hawk senior Brandon McCann, who hit nine three-pointers.

Sistrunk led the way with 21 points for Jewell, while Jordan Lewis and Cyril Bilong each ended the game with 18 points.  DeVonte Bell had 16 points, with D'Vante Mosby adding13, and Clint McCullough chipping in six rebounds.  Mosby led all rebounders with nine, narrowly missing his third straight double-double.

Jewell will host Central Christian College of the Bible on Saturday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m.
