The William Jewell College women's tennis team moved to 3-0 Saturday, dropping just three points in a pair of victories Saturday at the Knight Fieldhouse in Lincoln, Neb.
The Cards defeated No. 24 (NAIA) Nebraska Wesleyan in the opening match and defeated No. 20 (NAIA) Bethel College 8-1 in the nightcap.
Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Jewell got off to a 2-0 start as Conner and
Loree Hazelrigg and
Hana Lindbloom and Jaimie
Baker won their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches 8-3. The Cards fell 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles action the Cards received straight set wins by
Kristen Stivers at No. 1 singles,
Savannah Drew at No. 4,
Loree Hazelrigg at No. 5 and
Carli Bisesi at No. 6. Lindbloom pulled out a three set victory winning 2-6, 7-6, and 10-5.
In the second half of the doubleheader, Jewell earned a 3-0 lead with wins at No. 1 8-3, No. 2 9-7 and No. 3 8-5.
The Cards used three more straight-set wins in singles to finish off the Threshers. Lindbloom, Drew and Bisesi earned
Jewells fourth, fifth and sixth wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Loree Hazelrigg and
Katy Lehenbauer garnered Jewell's seventh and eighth points at No. 5 and No. 3.
The Cardinals, 3-0 on the spring season will host Evangel University on Monday, February 18 at 12:00 p.m. at Clayview Country Club.
