Jewell basketball will finish the regular season in downtown Kansas City, taking on Rockhurst University in women's and men's games tonight.
Both teams have qualified for the GLVC Championship tournament in their first years of eligibility, and will begin play on Sunday at a site to be determined after Thursday's play.
The Cardinal women (16-9, 10-7 in the GLVC, 4th in the West) are riding a three-game winning streak and have the reigning GLVC Player of the Week in junior guard
Chelsea Meeks. The Rockhurst women (7-18, 4-13) upset the Cardinals in Liberty earlier in the season 67-46.
Please note that the game time is now scheduled for 5:15 p.m.; free online audio coverage on the
WJC Sports Network begins at 4:55 p.m.
In the nightcap from Mason-Halpin Field House, the Cardinal men (12-13, 8-9) take on a Hawks team (4-20, 3-14) that they defeated 70-54 in Liberty on January 21. Game time is scheduled for approximately 7:15 p.m., with online audio coverage at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Both the Cardinal teams will then wait to see the results from around the league to determine where they play on Sunday.
For both men and women, the top five teams from each GLVC division, plus the next two best teams from either division, qualify for the GLVC Championship playoffs. The top four seeds in the tournament have Sunday off, while the remainiing eight seeds play at home sites. The winners advance to the conference quarterfinals in Evansville, Indiana.
