The William Jewell College women's tennis team took on an old Heart of America Conference rival Lindenwood University and rolled to a 6-3 victory Friday afternoon at Northland Racquet Club.
After a pair of Jewell victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, the No. 2 team of
Hana Lindbloom and
Jaimie Baker hoped to pull out the sweep, but fell short with an 8-6 decision. Nonetheless, the Cards had the 2-1 advantage moving into singles.
Singles play got off to a great start for Jewell as
Kristen Stivers won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Adela Slovakova. First-year player
Savannah Drew won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to put Jewell up 4-1. Lindenwood gained a point at No. 2 singles as Gloria Marras defeated Lindbloom 7-5, 6-0. Sophomore
Katy Lehenbauer clinched the match for the Cards with her 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Loree Hazelrigg lost a tough 7-5, 6-2 match at No. 5 singles before
Carli Bisesi took out Sarah Sharpe 6-3, 6-2 to give the Cards their sixth point of the dual.
The Cardinals, 6-1 on the spring, will travel to Maryville, Mo., on Wednesday, March 13 to take on Northwest Missouri State University at 2:00 p.m.
