Olivia Dykes scored three goals against Southwest Baptist University--all of them in the first half--to give Jewell women's soccer a two-goal lead, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats (5-1) came back for a 4-3 win Tuesday at Greene Stadium in Liberty.
The first-half barrage for Dykes started just three minutes into the match when she pounde the ball past an out of position defense to lead 1-0.  After SBU came back to tie the game in the 24th minute, Dykes hit on a drive in the 26th minute and another drive in the 28th  minute to put Jewell in control going into halftime.
SBU, however, came back with goals in the 53rd, 63rd, and 77th minutes for the win.
Jewell was playing without starting goalkeeper
Kelli Sontag and defensive back
Justine Dover due to injuries; during the warm-up period, All-American forward
Sarah Franklin turned her ankle and was kept out of the non-conference match.
The Cardinals (4-2-1) resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday at home against the Unversity of Illinois-Springfield at 5:00.
