Cards Can't Hold off Strong Truman Women, Fall 83-75

The Cardinals of William Jewell faced  the Bulldogs of Truman State University Saturday at the Mabee Center in Liberty, and despite a fast start and a faster-paced game, the Cardinals came up short 83-75. 

The Cardinals are now 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Truman State moves to 14-3, 7-2 in the GLVC.
 
Jewell's opening 6-0 scoring run had them leading the Bulldogs at half 30-27.  Hayli Jo Smith had 10 points in the half; Chelsea Meeks had nine points and Cassy Nicolay contributed eight rebounds.
 
The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with under five minutes remaining in regulation and were able to hold off Jewell, hitting 25-32 free throws in the game.

For Jewell,  Meeks finished with 22 points; Hayli Jo Smith added 17; Aerial Smith scored 16 and Nicolay grabbed 11 boards.  The Cardinals shot 100% from the line on the game (11-11).
 
William Jewell will be on the road this week, traveling to St. Louis to face the  University of Missouri St. Louis on Thursday, then take on Maryville on Saturday.
