Jade Gifford scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute to lift the William Jewell College (6-3-3, 5-3-2 GLVC) women's soccer team to a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley conference win over University of Illinois-Springfield (2-8-2, 0-8-2 GLVC) on Sunday in Springfield, Ill.
The Cardinals outshot the Prairie Stars 12-6 in the first half while UIS outshot Jewell 9-8 in the second half.
After a scoreless first half the Cardinals finally capitalized at the 83:57 mark when
Gabby Brooks found Gifford off a cross from the corner and Gifford knocked in the winning goal just before regulation. It was Gifford's fourth goal of the season.
Jordan Lewis earned the win in goal for Jewell logging all 90 minutes and saved four shots.
The Cardinals will return home to host Bellarmine University on Friday, October 17 at Greene Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
