The William Jewell College men's soccer team was edged 2-1 by Bellarmine University on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Greene Stadium. Jewell falls to 3-8-3 overall and 2-6-3 in the GLVC while Bellarmine moves to 6-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in GLVC play.
The Knights got on the board in the first minute of the game when Dan Schiavi scored his sixth goal of the year. Jewell would answer back to tie things up at the 17:10 mark when
Trey Flick scored his first goal of the season off a pass from
Jeff Nickel.
Bellarmine took the lead 12 minutes later on a goal from Trevor Thompson. The score would remain 2-1 at halftime and Bellarmine would hold on for the rest of the contest to that slim margin.
Bellarmine dominated the stats leading the Cards 16-7 in shots and 12-2 in shots on goal. The game also featured 27 fouls, 5 yellow cards and one red card.
Shane Van Hooser registered 8 saves on the night for Jewell in 90 minutes in goal.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday as they play host to McKendree University. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
