A late first half goal was just enough for the visiting McKendree Bearcats to upend the William Jewell College women's soccer team 1-0 on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The loss drops the Cards to 6-5-3, 5-5-2 in GLVC while the Bearcats improve to 6-9-0, and 5-7-0 in GLVC. This also marks the only time in the 2014 season the Cards have dropped two straight.
The Bearcats scored the only goal of the game just before halftime at the 44:36 mark when Cassie Kaiping scored off of a corner kick.
McKendree dominated the stat sheet leading the Cardinals in shots 15-6 including 8-2 in shots on goal. They also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Jade Gifford led the Cards in shots with 4 including the only two on goal.
Alex Dressman played all 90 minutes in goal and saved seven shots.
William Jewell will continue GLVC play as they host Missouri S&T on Friday, October 24. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
