The William Jewell College women's basketball team won their second game of the season Friday night in Maryville, Missouri, with a 62-52 win over host Northwest Missouri State University in the Winstead-Reeves Classic.
The Cardinals (2-0) built an 11 point lead in the first half and led by eight at the halftime break before the Bearcats (1-3) rallied to take a five point lead with 7:37 left in the game. Â Jewell, though, rallied with good defense and key free throw shooting down the stretch to defeat NWMSU on their home floor.
Aerial Smith had 17 points for Jewell, along with eight rebounds and five assists. Â
Katie Finn had 14 points and eight rebounds, and
Maddie Nelson had eight points, three assists and four steals.
The Cards shot 29% from the floor, the Bearcats 37%, but Jewell hit seven three-pointers to Northwest's three. Â The Cardinals also forced 22 turnovers and committed only 10 of their own. Â
Jewell next faces Pittsburg State at 2:00 on Saturday.
