The William Jewell Cardinal women's basketball team ran into a hot Pittsburg State team during the second day of play in the Winstead-Reeves basketball tournament Saturday in Maryville, Mo., as the Gorillas (5-0) defeated Jewell 89-51.
The Cardinals (2-1) were down by 11 at half, but a total of 28 turnovers combined with shooting 36% from the floor led Pitt State to outscore Jewell 51-24 in the second half. Â The Gorillas hit 51% of their shots and only turned the ball over 10 times.
Maddie Nelson led Jewell with nine points and
Hayli Jo Smith had five boards.
The Cardinals return to the Mabee Center to face Southwest Baptist University Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
