Box Score
Jewell men's basketball held off a physical and aggressive Maryville University team Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, winning 76-70 to move to 8-11 on the season, 4-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
After being tied at half, Jewell took over in the second half behind Kyle Smith's outside shooting (3-4 from behind the arc) and
Clint McCullough's double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds). Â D'Vante Mosby had 13 points and nine rebounds, barely missing the double-double, and
Jordan Lewis had 15 points.
It was Lewis' four free throws down the stretch, however, that held off the Saints (10-8, 4-6) down the stretch with Maryville behind and fouling to try to get back into the game.
The Cardinals shot 41% from the field compared to Maryville's 48%, but Jewell's free-throw shooting was more than enough to counter, as the Cardinals were 17-22 from the line and the Saints were 6-9.
Jewell goes on the road again next weekend, Thursday night at Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin, then Saturday afternoon at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
