Cardinal women's basketball played some of their best basketball of the year Saturday afternoon in Romeoville, Illinois, but came up short against #16 Lewis University 86-75.

It was Lewis' 11th home win of the season, and their 22nd consecutive win on their home floor.

Aerial Smith led Jewell scorers with 18 points.  Chelsea Meeks and Hayli Jo Smith each had 15 points, and Cassy Nicolay had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals (9-12, 4-8 in GLVC play).

The Cardinals built a six point lead late in the first half and continued to lead for good parts of the second half.  Lewis was able to get back into the game by hitting 20 of 27 free throws in the second half, and 22 of 30 in the game.  Lewis also outrebounded Jewell 41-35 in the game.

The Cardinals return home for their next four games, facing McKendree University Thursday night at 5:30 in Liberty.
