Box Score Box ScoreThe William Jewell College women's tennis team defeated Truman State University 8-1 for its first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) victory of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Truman Tennis Courts in Kirksville, Mo.
With the victory, Jewell improves to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC. Truman State is now 2-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Cards earned two points via two wins in doubles play. The No. 2 team of Conner and
Loree Hazelrigg was an 8-4 winner over Savannah Evert and Lauren Jin.
Savannah Drew and
Lauren Huddlestun defeated Jessica Gennuso and Kelsey Porter 8-4, in No. 3 doubles action.
Jewell swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
In a battle of No. 1s,
Kristen Stivers took out Kim Birenbaum 7-5, 6-0. Drew was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against Gennuso in the No. 2 match. Huddlestun won the No. 3 match-up against Marisa Thome, 6-2, 7-5.
Katy Lehenbauer defeated Hannah Runez at No. 4 6-4, 6-2 while
Conner Hazelrigg won her match over Everett 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 5 match. At No. 6,
Loree Hazelrigg won 6-1, 6-1 over Holly Cantalupo.
William Jewell will travel to Maryville, Mo., on Monday, March 31 to take on Northwest Missouri State University in a non-conference match at 3:00 p.m.
