The William Jewell College women's tennis team fell 8-1 to Maryville University in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at the Frontenac Racquet Club in St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday night.

First-year player Lauren Huddlestun won Jewell's lone match of the day as she defeated Anne Lutz 8-3 at No. 3 singles.
Jewell moves to 3-4 overall, 0-1 in the GLVC.

The Cards will be back in action Wednesday, March 12 in an exhibition match with Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.  First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
