Box Score The William Jewell College football team played good defense in the first half against the high-powered Colorado School of Mines offense, but had a difficult time against the Oredigger defense, falling 46-0 in Arvada, Colo., on Saturday.
Down just 15-0 at half, the Cardinals had limited Mines to one touchdown, two field goals and a safety. The safety occurred after a goal-line stand shut down Mines inside the Jewell one yard line.
The second half was a different story as the Orediggers took advantage of two Cardinal turnovers and put 29 points on the board in the final two periods.
Jimmy DeStefano led the Cardinals with 14 tackles, an interception and a sack.
Anthony Mullins had four receptions in the game for 96 yards including a 43 yard reception in the second quarter which was the highlight of the offensive day for Jewell. Mullins also had 74 yards in kickoff returns.
Jewell (1-1, 1-0 GLVC) returns to Greene Stadium next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with Valparaiso University.
