The William Jewell College women's soccer team won their third straight game today defeating Rogers State University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon in Liberty, Mo. The Cards dominated the Hillcats by a 6-1 margin. The Cardinals improve to 4-1-3 while the Hillcats fall to 0-9 on the season.
Jewell led 2-0 at halftime thanks to two first half goals by
Lea Maxwell. Maxwell's first goal came at the 6:24 mark off an assist from
Madeline Hopfinger from the far right wing.
Twelve minutes later
Brittany O'Dell found Maxwell in the box who knocked home her second goal of the game.
Aspen Hawkins scored a goal a minute into the second half to give Jewell a 3-0 lead.
Lexi Pommer scored her first goal of the season three minutes later to give the Cards a commanding 4-0 lead.
Jianna Cervantes' header put Rogers State on the board to cut Jewell's lead to 4-1.
Jade Gifford and
Megan Morgan then added two more goals for Jewell to provide the winning 6-1 margin.
The Cardinals outshot the Hillcats 21-11 including a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Jordan Lewis picked up the win in goal for Jewell as she saved seven shots on the afternoon.
Jewell will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday, October 3 when they host Truman State University at 12:00 p.m.
