Box Score 2 The William Jewell College volleyball team fell to Northwest Missouri State and then earned their first victory of 2014 defeating East Central University to go 1-1 on the first day of the Rockhurst University Tournament. The Cardinals faced Northwest Missouri State to kick off the tournament and fell in three sets (25-11, 25-23, 25-23). They faced East Central University in the second to last match of the night and won in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-11).
Against Northwest,
Lauren Holm led Jewell with 9 kills.
Kaylee Marquardt had a strong offensive showing recording 8 kills while
Amy Lindhorst recorded 14 assists and 5 digs.Â
Lesley Iron led all Cardinal defenders with 14 digs.
During the match against East Central both teams battled back and forth in the first two sets before Jewell pulled away in set three and four. Holm again led the offensive attack with 13 kills, and 11 digs.
Kelsey Wagner and
Christina Pratt contributed to the offense with 9 kills each.  Lindhorst recorded 24 assists and 11 digs while
Megan Hellwege had 12 assists and five digs.
The Cardinals (1-2) will return to action tomorrow against Pittsburg State University at 12:00 p.m. followed by a match against Missouri Western State University at 2:30 p.m. to wrap up play in the Rockhurst Tournament.
