The William Jewell College women's basketball team opened the home portion of their Great Lakes Valley Conference season on Thursday evening hosting University of Indianapolis. William Jewell stopped a two game GLVC losing streak dominating UIndy 74-44. Jewell improves to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in GLVC play while UIndy falls to 5-7 and 2-2 in GLVC.
The Cards shot 44 percent from the field in the first half and were 5-16 from the three point arc and led the Hounds 35-20 at Halftime.
The Hounds found themselves in foul trouble in the second half as Jewell reached the bonus 14:06 to play. Jewell built their largest lead of the game 56-30 halfway through the second half in part by holding the Hounds to 27 percent shooting on the night and cruised from there.
Hayli Jo Smith led Jewell with 16 points while
Aerial Smith had 11 and
Maddie Nelson contributed 10.
Princess German led the Hounds scoring 14.
The Cards will return to action on Saturday, January 10, 2015 as they host Saint Joseph's College at 1:00 p.m.
