The William Jewell men's soccer team hosted Maryville University for a Great Valley Lakes Conference match up on afternoon Saturday. The Cardinals finished with a 1-0 victory over the Saints which improves their overall record to 3-8-2 and 2-7-1 in the GLVC while Maryville move to a 5-6-1 overall and a 3-5-1.

The Cardinals got out to an outstanding start in the first half, with
Hunter Short getting the first goal of the game at the 35:36 mark with the assist going to
Brodi Sabiston.

In the second half the Cardinals defense was kept busy by the Saints forwards. Maryville recorded four shots in the half but were unable to make ends meet. The Cardinals pushed MU late, with
Tristan Morgan having an opportunity to extend the lead, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Cardinals rallied throughout the rest of the second half to shut out the Saints and keep the 1-0 victory.

Joe Keeven upped his record to 3-8-2 on the season while recording one save.

The Cardinals take on Saint Joseph's College (Ind.) next weekend as the host the Pumas on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m.
