The William Jewell volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 9 Wayne State College (Neb.) 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 in non-conference action on the road Tuesday night.
The Cardinals are now 5-14 on the season.
Jewell competed with the top ranked team, but couldn't match the hitting percentage posted by the Bears. The Cardinals hit .186 on the night, including .371 in the set two. However, Wayne State comitted just seven errors on 121 attempts for a hitting percentage of .306.Â
Senior
Kaylee Marquardt and freshman
Raechel Meisinger led the Cardinals with eight kills a piece while
Paige Cunningham added seven. Marquradt's eight kills came on just 16 attempts, as she hit .438 on the night, giving her two consecutive games hitting over .400.
Defensively Jewell shined having four players with double digit digs, led by
Olivia Tolberd's 18.
Alix Weigel and
Codi Winslow each also totaled 12. Freshman
Stefanie Richterkessing posted 15 digs along with 28 assists.
Up next for Jewell is the Mizuno Midwest Regional Crossover in Aurora, Ill. this weekend. The Cardinals will take on Ursuline College out of the GMAC on Friday at 2:30 p.m. along with Northwood (Mich.) and Malone University of the GLIAC on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
