Men’s Soccer Ties Wisconsin-Parkside 2-2, in Double Overtime

The William Jewell College men's soccer team and University of Wisconsin-Parkside expended 110 minutes of energy before settling for a 2-2 overtime tie Friday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match. The Cardinals are now 3-10-3 overall and 2-8-2 in the GLVC.   Parkside is now 5-7-4 and 5-5-4 respectively.

Parkside tallied the lone goal of the first half when Ryan Shogren nailed his sixth of the season, at 9:54. Shots were tied 6-6 in the first half, but Parkside had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Jewell needed only five minutes of the second half (50:54) to tie the game when Ethan Delaney scored off a pass from Jordan Lindsey.  The goal was Delaney's team-leading sixth of the season.

The Cardinals struck again at 70:04 when Evan Miller collected his first goal of the season with the assist going to Justin Riley.

The Rangers sent the game into overtime with one second left on the clock as Brandon Henderson scored off a scramble in front of the goal.

Jewell totaled 17 shots in regulation to sixteen for Parkside. The Rangers led the Cardinals 7-1 in shots during both overtimes.

Keeper Joe Keeven returned to action and recorded four saves on the afternoon.

The Cardinals will continue conference play Sunday when they travel to Lewis University for a 2:30 p.m. match.
