The William Jewell women's basketball team, participating in the CCA Division II Tip Off Classic, opened the 2015-2016 season with a loss to Alaska Anchorage 90-63 in Anaheim, Calif. on Friday.

Although, not currently in the national polls, the Seawolves spent much of last season ranked in the top five and returned a full lineup this winter.

The Cardinals opened the game cold going just 7-26 from the floor including 0-9 from behind the three point line while Alaska Anchorage shot over 51 percent in the opening half. The Seawolves also shot an outstanding 9-17 from behind the arc in the first half to pull away early as they held a 55-27 lead at the break.

Things improved slightly in the second half as Jewell upped their shooting percentage to 34 percent while Alaska Anchorage cooled off shooting just under 38 percent from the floor.

The difference in the game proved to be the three point line where Jewell hit just three of their 18 shots while the Seawolves made 15 of 30.

Freshman Blair Klostermann led the Cardinals with 15 points, followed closely by Chris Keys with 13 in just 16 minutes of play. Junior Maddie Nelson paced Jewell with six rebounds.

It's a quick turnaround for the Cardinals as they continue play in the Tip Off Classic tomorrow taking on New York Institute of Technology at 4:00 pacific time at the Anaheim Convention Center.
