The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a four-set contest at Wisconsin Parkside Friday night 25-10, 25-19, 25-19, 25-11. The loss drops Jewell to 7-18 overall, 1-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The night did not start well for Jewell as they fell in an early three point hole before a Parkside service error would help the Cardinals get on the board. However, the Rangers would continue to dominate the set finishing it off at 25-10. In the opening frame the Cardinals managed just four kills while committing 12 errors for -.276 attack percentage, while Wisconsin Parkside hit .286 as a team.
The Rangers came out firing in the second set as they grabbed three consecutive blocks to open before
Kaylee Marquardt stopped the run with a kill. The Cardinals battled back to tie the game at nine before taking their first lead of the night on an ace serve from
Stefanie Richterkessing. Kills from
Kelsey Wagner and
Raechel Meisinger combined with two Ranger errors pushed the lead to 19-15 forcing a Parkside timeout. Meisinger and Marquardt finished off the set 25-19 for Jewell. During the second frame the Cardinals enjoyed a complete turnaround grabbing 15 kills and committing just three errors and totaled 17 digs. Marquardt had six of her team-high 13 kills in the second set alone.
Following the break Meisinger got two quick kills for an early Jewell lead before four errors led to a five point deficit. The lead would grow as large as ten before the Cardinals crawled back, aided by 12 Ranger errors over the latter part of the set. With the score at 22-18 Lauren Hickson and Jackie Langer finished off the set to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
The final set saw the two teams trade points early before two Jewell errors gave Wisconsin Parkside a 10-7 lead. With the Rangers up 14-9 Rebecca Roembke took over and posted five of her 14 kills and led Wisconsin Parkside to a 25-11 win.
On the night Marquardt led the Cardinals with 13 kills on 28 attempts for a .393 attack percentage. Wagner and
Grace Miller also added eight kills a piece.
Defensively
Olivia Tolberd paced Jewell with 18 digs followed by Richterkessing with 13 to go along with 35 assists, and two aces.
The Cardinals will travel to Romeoville, Ill. tomorrow to take on No. 21 Lewis University who fell to No. 8 Rockhurst in five sets Friday night.
