Box Score The William Jewell College football team ended their season with a loss to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Saturday in Rapid City, South Dakota. The 35-14 win by the Hardrockers leaves Jewell with a 4-7 record for the season.
It didn't look like Jewell would struggle at all initially, as
Nick West hit
Bulla Graft with an 85 yard touchdown strike 55 seconds into the game to give the Cardinals a quick lead. The Cardinals continued to move the ball on their second drive, but a holding call negated a 15 yard touchdown pass, and a missed field goal ended the drive. It was mostly SDM&T after that.
The Hardrockers (6-5) scored the next 35 consecutive points, as Jewell turned the ball over four times in the game. The final score was a West to
Anthony Mullins pass from 15 yards out with 2:12 left in the third quarter.
West had a career high with 517 yards on 34 of 62 passing; the Cardinals didn't have much of a chance to develop their run game, and finished with 41 yards rushing.
Mines had a tough time rushing the ball also, as the Cardinal defense held them to nine total rush yards. They did throw, however, for 479 yards.
Jewell's Mullins had 11 receptions for 136 yards, and Graft had seven receptions for 173 yards. Defensively,
Andrew Pence and
Zach Haynes each had 7.5 tackles.
The Cardinals begin the 2016 season by returning to Rapid City to face the Hardrockers.
