The William Jewell College softball team rallied to split a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with University of Indianapolis on Saturday at Spratt Sports Complex on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo. UIndy took game one 7-5 while Jewell won 5-4 in game two.
The first game saw the Cards jump out to 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Hounds tied the game with two in the fourth and two in the fifth. In the bottom of the seventh the Cards found themselves down 5-4 only to see
Faith Song hit a solo home run to tie the game at 5. UIndy plated home two in the top of the eighth to produce the winning margin.
Song finished the game 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. She was saddled with the loss tossing three innings in relief of
Shelby McGraw.
In game two, UIndy built a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.
Nona Pauline tied the game with a two out, two-run homerun that scored
Madi Giles. Jewell then scored two in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by a two-run double by Giles and were able to hold the Hounds scoreless in the top of the seventh for the victory.
Shelby McGraw (3-2) earned the win in relief of Pauline. Pauline was 3-4 at the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored while Giles was 2-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
The Cardinals (11-6, 2-4 GLVC) will host Saint Joseph's College for a doubleheader on Sunday at Jewell. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
