The William Jewell College softball team split a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's College winning the opener 3-0 and falling in the nightcap 6-3 at Sprat Sports Complex on Sunday.
Jewell is now is now 12-7 overall and 4-6 in GLVC. The Pumas are 11-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
In the opener the Cardinals scored the first two runs of the contest in the opening inning on an RBI single by
Faith Song. Jewell then turned the game over to arm of
Shelby McGraw.
McGraw (4-2) while allowing only six hits while going the distance.
Rachel Potvin went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored while
Nona Pauline went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the nightcap the game remained tied 3-3 through six innings before the Pumas scored three in the top of the seventh and held the Cards in order in the bottom frame. Jewell struggled for most of the game being able to put any offense together.
Pauline (5-4) received the loss as she allowed five runs on seven hits and walked four.
Jewell will host Northwest Missouri State University on Wednesday, March 25 for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
