Box Score The William Jewell College women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by Lindenwood University on Saturday in St. Charles, Mo.
The Cardinals were able to pull off two solid doubles wins as Conner and
Loree Hazelrigg and Lauren Hudlestun and
Savannah Drew won at No.1 and No. 2 doubles respectively. The Lions pulled out an 8-6 win at No.3 doubles.Â
In singles play, Jewell took a 3-1 lead when
Conner Hazelrigg won her match at No. 2 singles 7-6, 6-2. Lindenwood would then take the No.3 and No.4 singles matches to tie things at 3-3. First-year player
Claire Mackay put Jewell back on top with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Lindenwood then won a thrilling three set match over Drew at No. 1 singles and clinched the match win in two close sets at No. 5 singles over
Loree Hazelrigg.
The Cardinals (6-4) will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Wednesday when they host Rockhurst University at 3:00 p.m. at Clayview Country Club.Â
