The William Jewell College softball team was swept in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Rockhurst by scores of 7-1 and 5-4.
Jewell has dropped four straight and falls to 17-12 and 5-9 in GLVC play while Rockhurst improves to 17-11 and 8-6.
In game one, Rockhurst earned momentum by scoring three in the second and two in the third to build a 5-1 lead and never looked back.
Shelby McGraw (6-4) took the loss giving up 13 hits and seven runs (six earned) and only striking out two batters.
Game two saw Rockhurst jump out to a 3-0 lead only to see Jewell respond in the fourth on a two run triple by
Brooke Bernard. Rockhurst scored single runs in the fifth and sixth and led 5-3 going into the top of the seventh.
Annali Dolman came up with runners on second and third and two out and hit a single that scored Nona
Pauline but
Megan Barnes was thrown out at home trying to score the tying run.
Pauline (7-7) took the loss for the Cards as she hurled seven innings and struck out 8 Rockhurst batters.
The Cardinals will host Missouri S&T on Friday, April 3 at the Spratt Sports Complex on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
