Jewell Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Quincy

The William Jewell College softball team snapped a two game losing skid with a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of Quincy University on Friday.  The Cards dominated game one 10-4 and edged out a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

The Cardinals improve to 21-6 overall and 9-11 in GLVC action.

Quincy took a quick 4-0 lead in the first two innings before the Cards exploded for five runs in the third that was highlighted by a grand slam from Shelby McGraw.

McGraw hit another two run blast in the sixth as Jewell scored four more runs after scoring a single run in the fifth.

McGraw had three of the Cardinals' 10 hits while driving in six.

Faith Song (5-2) allowed only three hits in 5.2 innings in relief of Nona Pauline to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Jewell got out to a 4-0 lead.  The Cards scored two in the first, followed by single runs in the second and third.  Quincy scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth but Jewell was able to hang on for the one run win.

McGraw (8-5) went 4.1 innings giving up 6 hits and three runs while striking out one.  Song earned her first save of the season pitching 2.2 innings of relief.

Madi Giles led the Cards with three hits and a run scored.
