The William Jewell College softball team was swept in a pair of non-conference games at Southwest Baptist University Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals dropped the opening game 4-1 and suffered a 3-2 loss to end the afternoon.
In the opening contest Jewell (19-16) was limited to five hits and only one run.
Nona Pauline (8-9) suffered the loss going 2.1 innings while giving up seven hits, four runs (three earned) while striking out two.
Shelby McGraw pitched 3.2 solid innings in relief giving up two hits while striking out five.
The Bearcats carried the momentum in the finale, scoring single runs in the second, third and fifth innings respectively. The Cardinals made things interesting in the top of the seventh when
Faith Song hit a two-out two-run homerun to cut the lead to one. Southwest Baptist was able to close the game out two batters later.
McGraw tossed six innings giving up seven hits, and three runs while striking out four.
Jewell will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend at Truman State University on Saturday, April 11. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
