Cards Split Twinbill with Panthers;Turn Attention to GLVC Championships

The William Jewell College baseball team closed out the 2015 regular season with a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with Drury University Sunday Talley Stadium.  The Cardinals split the twinbill taking game one 8-6 but dropping game two 15-9.

In game one, Jewell fell behind 3-1 before scoring three in the bottom of the third.  Andrew Miller hit a key two run triple to fuel the rally.  The Cardinals added two more runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth respectively.  Drury made things interesting by scoring one in the fourth and two in the seventh before the Cardinals slammed the door on the Panthers rally.

Preston Felgate earned the win throwing four innings and improving to 5-0 on the season.

Jared Patton went 2-3 including his seventh homerun of the season and Bryan Porting was 2-2 with a run scored and two RBI's.

Game two, saw the Drury offense come to life.  The Panthers scored two runs in the first, second, third and sixth innings respectively to go along with a single run in the fifth and seventh and a huge five run outburst in the eighth.

The Cardinals were able to pound out 18 hits and did score 9 runs but it was not enough to overcome the Panthers offense.
Billy Kirkpatrick (4-3) took the loss on the hill for Jewell.  Sam Morman was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Coleman Waheed was 4-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.

The Cardinals (35-15, 25-11 GLVC) will head to Westfield, Ind., to participate in the 2015 GLVC Baseball Championship.  Jewell has earned the number three seed and will take on Bellarmine University on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. (EST).  The two teams have not met since the Cardinals took three out of four conference games in Louisville, March 15-16, 2014.

Tickets for the 36th annual conference tournament are $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for children, while kids 5-and-under are free. Tickets will be available at those prices from Thursday through Saturday, while Sunday's tickets will dip to $8 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children. The GLVC is offering an All-Tournament pass for $35.
