The William Jewell women's soccer team earned their first Great Lakes Valley Conference win with a 2-1 victory over Missouri S&T on Sunday. The Cardinals now stand at 2-0-2 overall including 1-0-1 in the GLVC.
It was all Cardinals in the first half as they outshot the Miners nine to four. At the 30:36 mark, freshman
Alyson Galler knocked in her first goal of the season from 25 yards out. The ball was assisted by
Jade Gifford. Just over eleven minutes later
McKenzie Kellogg got a header off a Gifford corner kick to find the net for her first goal of 2015.
Missouri S&T's Mikaela Mockenhaupt cut the lead in half at the 70:21 mark, but that was as close as the Miners would get.
Overall Jewell outshot S&T 15-8 including seven on goal to the Miners' three.
Gifford along with
Emma Baldridge each grabbed four shots, including two on goal. Gifford also assisted on both of Jewell's goals. Galler totaled three shots, while
Aspen Hawkins added two.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jordan Lewis remained unbeaten at 2-0-2 while totaling two saves.
Up next the Cardinals will continue Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a trip to McKendree University on Friday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m. Â Â
