The William Jewell College men's soccer team hosted non-conference Southwest Baptist University on Tuesday evening at Greene Stadium. The Cardinals used a strong first half performance to earn their first victory of 2015, 4-1 to improve to 1-3 overall. Southwest Baptist falls to 0-5 on the season.
Southwest Baptist opened the scoring after converting a penalty kick off a Jewell hand ball. The Cardinals then erupted for four unanswered goals in the first half.
Ethan Delaney scored his second goal of the season at the 13:19 mark. Three minutes later
Aaron Froehlich knocked home his first goal of the season followed by goals from
Tristan Morgan at the 38:40 mark and
Blake Lines at 41:54. Jewell held an 11-6 advantage in shots and took a commanding 4-1 lead into halftime.
The Cards led 9-4 on shots in the second half but both teams were held scoreless.
The Cardinals will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday as the travel to Lebanon, Ill., to take on McKendree University. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
