The William Jewell College men's basketball team fell victim to Maryville and Max Mischkulnig's heroics as Mischkulnig's 3-point play with 10.4 seconds remaining gave the Saints a 73-72 win in St. Louis on Saturday.
The Cardinals held the lead for the entire second half and built a five point lead with under a minute to play. Â
After a Maryville 3-pointer the Cards came down had a chance to extend the lead but
Jordan Tanners shot inside the land rolled out and Maryville pulled down the rebound. Â
Mischkulnig then was able to hit a shot and was fouled in the process. He sank the free throw to give them the one point lead and Jewell was not able to get a shot off at the end.Â
Patrick Whelan had a game-high 25 points and added six assists to lead the Cardinals who fall to 7-12 overall and 2-9 in GLVC play.Â

Tanner were the only other Cardinals in double figures with 13 each. Jewell's struggles from 3-point continue as they shot 3-13 from beyond the arc.Â
The Cardinals will travel to Kenosha, Wisc., on Thursday, February 4 to take on Wisconsin-Parkside with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
