Box Score The William Jewell College Cardinals fell to the No. 11 Bellarmine University Knights by a score of 90-59 Thursday night in the Mabee Center.
The Knights raced out to an early lead, shooting an outlandish 72 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 52-19 halftime lead. Despite outscoring the Knights 40-38 in the second half, the Cardinals would be unable to comeback from their massive halftime deficit.
The Cardinals were plagued by abysmal three-point shooting, missing all eleven of their first-half three point attempts. Additionally, the Cardinals were unable to stop the hot hands of the Bellarmine offense, as the Knights shot 67 percent from the field in the game.
The Cardinals were led in scoring by
Emil Ostafiiciuc and
Darius Tomlin, both of whom had nine points on the night.
Jordan Tanner and
Matt Lassen each chipped in eight points in the Cardinal loss. Freshman
Chandler Lyon came off the bench to contribute six points and four rebounds.
The Bellarmine offense was led by Brent Bach and Yasin Kolo, who scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. Despite only scoring five points, Al Davis had seven assists in the Knight victory.
The Cardinals drop to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in GLVC play with the loss. The victory moves the Knights to 10-2 and 3-0 in the GLVC.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday afternoon, when they take on the University of Southern Indiana at 3:00 p.m. in the Mabee Center.
