Cards Shutout UIS 2-0

The William Jewell College women's soccer team returned home to Greene Stadium on Friday as they took on Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent University of Illinois-Springfield.  Jewell scored two second half goals to come away with 2-0 victory.

The Cardinals improve to 3-8-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the GLVC while UIS falls to 7-7 overall and 4-7 in league play.

Jewell dominated possession in the first half outshooting the Prairie Stars 14-5.  Jewell missed a couple of scoring opportunities and went into half 0-0.

The Cards got on the board at the 53:34 mark in the second half when Shalynn Thomas found Emily Monroe who netted home her second goal of the season to put Jewell up 1-0.

Jewell would tack on another goal at the 81:13 mark when Haley White dished to Lexi Pommer for her first goal of 2016 that produced the winning 2-0 margin.

The Cards outshot UIS 22-6 for the game and goalkeeper Jordan Lewis made two saves.
