A pair of first half goals lifted the William Jewell College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Drury on Sunday afternoon in Springfield Mo. Haley White and
Allison Malott each tallied their first goals of the season in the win for the Cardinals. With the victory, Jewell improves to 4-10-2 overall and 4-9-1 in GLVC play. The Panthers fall to 4-10-2 overall and 2-10-2 in league play.
Jewell jumped on the board with a goal in the 5th minute of the game.
Shalynn Thomas found White who knocked home her first goal of the season from 9 yards out to put the Cardinals up 1-0.
The Panthers tied the match with a goal in the 16th minute. From just over 8 yards out, Kayla Day sent a feed to her teammate Kerri Morris who scored her fourth goal of the year.
The Cardinals responded with the game-winner in the 28th minute. Senior
Emily Monroe found Malott whose 12 yard shot went off the Panthers goalie into the back of the net. Her first goal of the season, gave Jewell a 2-1 advantage.
Jewell outshot Drury 16-13, which included an 8-6 advantage on shots on-goal, in the contest.
Jordan Lewis came up with five saves on the afternoon. Monroe led the Cards with three shots in the game.
The Cardinals return home on Wednesday as they close out the regular season against cross town rival Rockhurst Wednesday at Greene Stadium. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
