The William Jewell College football team struggled in the second half and fell to University of Indianapolis 34-12 on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind.
The game marked the first time in history the Cardinals were featured on ESPN and the second time in four years for UIndy.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the GLVC. UIndy improves to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.
It was a tale of two halves for the Cardinals who produced a strong first half.
The Hounds struck first when Bryce Stancombe found Malik Higgins for a 30-yard touchdown strike to put UIndy up 7-0.
After a pair of
Brandon Womack field goals, Jewell then took a 12-7 lead when quarterback
Brad Strauss rushed in for six with 5:42 to play before halftime.
The Hounds added another touchdown just before halftime and led 14-12.
Jewell, however dominated time of possession and total yards in the first half.
The second half belonged to the Greyhounds as they relied on the ground game to take control. Running back Andrew Walker who burned the Cardinals for five touchdowns last season, rushed for two second half touchdowns and finished the game with 157 yards on 16 carries.
The Cardinals also committed their only two turnovers in the contest during the second half.
Strauss led the team in rushing for a second consecutive week with 55 yards rushing on 15 attempts.
Defensively, Isaac Dozier, Jr., led the Cardinals with 12 tackles.
Jewell will close out the regular season next Saturday when they host Lincoln University at 12:00 p.m.
